First Generation
------------------------------------------------------------

Hiram  Dorman, father of Margaret Dorman Bright, left Rockingham County, Virginia in the 1850's
to go to Pocahontas County. Hiram is the grandson of Andrew Dorman from Braunschweig,
Germany. Andrew came to North America as a Hessian Soldier during the Revolutionary War.
He was captured at Saratoga, New York and put in a Prisoner of war camp in Charlottesville, Virginia.
He escaped and settled in Rockingham County, VA.

1 James Luther BRIGHT was born 4-26-1847 in Bath Co., VA.

He was the son of Peter and Elizabeth BRIGHT of Bath Co., VA.

He died 12-14-1924 in Pocahontas Co., WV.
He married Margaret "Maggie" DORMAN on 2-14-1883(Poca. Co. Book 3, page 26) .

She was born on 4-13-1858 to Hiram and Margaret "Peggy" Overholt Dorman, Millpoint, WV.

She died on 5-7-1932 in Pocahontas County, WV.
They are buried in William Sharp Pioneer Cemetery on Back Mountain Rd., Pocahontas Co., WV.

1890 James bought 110 acres at Stony Creek, book 20, page 247

1896 Margaret E. Bright bought 100 acres at Adler Lick Run, book 27, page 81.


They had the following children:

2 Virgie Analee BRIGHT was born on 5-12-1884 in Pocahontas Co., WV.

She died on 2-22-1971 in Pocahontas Co., WV.
She married George WHEELER on 9-9-1905.(book 3, page 62)
Benjamin Wilfong, a German Baptist minister, performed the marriage near August Station, WV.

He was born on 4-3-1882 in Bath County, VA.
He is the son of James Knox and Mattie Swope Wheeler.
He died on 4-7-1969, Pocahontas County, WV.
They are buried at Wilfong Cemetery.
They lived on Brush Country Road in Pocahontas County, WV.


They had the following children:

3 Mary Margaret BRIGHT "Minty" was born 9-13-1886 in Pocahontas County, WV.

She died on 4-28-1938 In Pocahontas Co., WV.
She married Resa WILFONG on 5-3-1910(book 3, page 76).

He was born on 7-22-1887.
He died on 7-19-1966.
They are buried at Wilfong cemetery.

They had the following children:

15 Katie Margaret WILFONG

4 Noah Washington BRIGHT was born on 1-15-1889 in Pocahontas Co., WV.

He had a general store in Bolair, WV.
He died 4-23-1975 in Elkins, WV.
He married Bessie SHEARER on 8-28-1912.(book 4, page 8)

She was born 7-3-1894 and died 11-23-1936 in Pocahontas County, WV.

He is buried in WV Memorial Gardens near Calvin, WV.
She is buried at Gay Cemetery, Edray. (no marker)
1918 James and Margaret sold 50 acres to Noah Bright, book 55, page 378.

1925 Margaret Bright sold personal property to Noah for $150, book 62, p. 349.

1937 Noah bought Lot 44-45, Hamilton Field, Marlinton, book 73, page 305.


They had the following children:

5 Noel Sylvester WHEELER was born 10-2-1905 in Pocahontas County, WV.

He married Rosie KRAGEL who was born on 7-26-1921.
He died on 6-13-1952 as a result of a heart attack.
She lives in Girard, Ohio.

They had the following children:

6 Lillie Margaret WHEELER was born on 10-5-1907.
She married Clarence Arlington SHINABERRY.
He was born on 10-18-1892 at Iron Gate, Virginia.
He was first married to Georgia Glover in Bath County, VA (no children).

He died on 6-8-1963 and is buried at the Shinaberry Cemetery on Beverage Rd, Poage Lane, WV

In World War I he served in the WV Cook Co. D 39th Infantry 4th Div.

She died on 2-6-1995 and is buried at the Shinaberry Cemetery on Beverage Rd, Poage Lane, WV
 

They had the following children:

7 Mattie Elizabeth Wheeler was born on 6-5-1910.
She married Carl HIGGINS in September, 1934.
He was born on 10-10-1905 and died on 2-11-1966.
She died on 1-28-2000 and is buried in Wilfong Cemetery.

They had the following child:
27 Charles Raymond HIGGINS

8 Nora WHEELER was born on 8-14-1913.
She married Wilbur Denver MILLER on 8-21-1935(book 6, page 280)

He was born on 8-18-1913 and died on 1-21-1994.
She died 3-15-2005.
They are buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Marlinton, WV.

They had foster children - Edla Barb and Mary Grey.

They had the following children:

9 Eula Catherine WHEELER was born on 3-6-1916.
She married Hobert Arlen FRIEL on 5-12-1937.
He was born on 10-12-1914 and died on 6-1984.
He is buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Marlinton.

10 Edith Cavell WHEELER was born on 2-14-1919.
She married Cale NELSON.
He was born in Lincoln County on 3-7-1906 and died 2-11-1987.

He was a coal miner for 48 years.
She died on 11-14-2001.
They are buried in Wilfong Cemetery

They had the following children:

11 Zoe Hazel WHEELER was born on 3-21-1922
She married Adrian SHARP in 1940.
He was born on 2-20-1918 and died on 3-21-1995.
He was buried in Fairview Cemetery.
He worked at Bethlehem Steel for 35 years.
He retired in 1980.
She lives in Maryland.

They had the following children:

46 Sandra Sue SHARP
47 Wayne Raymond SHARP

12 Paul J. WILFONG was born on 4-13-1912 in Marlinton.
He died on 6-4-1998 at the Beckley Veterans Administration.

He is buried at the Wilfong Cemetery.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He had no children.

13 Vallie Jane WILFONG was born on 11-20-1915 in Pocahontas County.

She married Willard Gray WILSON on 6-7-1953 (book 9, page 136).

He was born on 1-15-1915.
He died on 9-13-1997.

48 Eugene WILFONG

She had the following children with Mike Jones:
49 Betty Lou JONES
50 Nancy Ellen JONES

Willard's children are Junior Wilson and Carolyn Baxter

14 Milburn WILFONG was born on 7-18-1918 in Pocahontas County.

He served in the Army in World War II.
He graduated from Morris Harvey College.
He lived in Charleston, WV and was a Purchasing Agent for Columbia Gas.

He died on 9-30-2002 and is buried in Wilfong Cemetery.
He had no children

15 Katie Margaret WILFONG was born on 10-29-1920 in Pocahontas County.

She lived in Charleston, WV and worked as a waitress.
She died on 1-3-2004 and is buried in Wilfong Cemetery.

She had the following children:
51 James Marvin WILFONG
52 Henry Lee WILFONG

16 Leo BRIGHT was born in 1914 and died on 1-31-1934.
He is buried in Gay Cemetery in Edray.
He died of pneumonia at Mountain State Hospital in Charleston, WV.

In June, 1932, at age 18, Leo was convicted of forging a name to

a $60.00 check to purchase an $18 suit from Paul Overholt.

He was sentenced to 6 years in prison.

17 Walter BRIGHT died as an infant.

18 Grace Edith BRIGHT was born in 4-1917.
She died 6-1-1921 from laryngitis.
She is probably buried in the Gay Cemetery, Edray, WV.

19 Margaret Selva BRIGHT was born 9-5-1919 in Pocahontas County.

She first married Jack Billie GIBSON.
She owned and operated Shinaberry General Store in Bolair, WV.

She died on 11-14-1993.
She is buried at WV Memorial Gardens near Calvin, WV.

They had the following children:
53 Billie Joe GIBSON
54 Selva Jean GIBSON

She 2nd married Lloyd SHINABERRY.
Lloyd had a daughter.
